The Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand: A Brief History

history of presbyterian church badge

This document gives a history of the Presbyterian Church starting from the 20 February 1840, two weeks after the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, when  the Rev John McFarlane landed in Wellington among  a contingent of Scots.

This is an ideal document for a youth leader to read who is starting to minister in a Presbyterian context for the first time or somebody new to New Zealand, but will probably be a good insight for all youth leaders in a Presbyterian setting.

The document looks at the early history, the growth, renewal, revival and the decline. It looks at the mission of the church, theology, ministry, ordination, and relations with other churches. The document is well written and the reader will have a good understanding of where the church has come from.
